The 4th annual We Care Day is to be held on Saturday 8 October 2016 from 9am – 3pm at Brelsford Park in Coffs Harbour. The day will kick off with a Wheelchair Sports basketball competition hosted by Paralympian Ryley Batt OAM, involving local dignitaries and sports people living with a disability.
Ryley who hails from Port Macquarie is currently in Rio preparing for the Australian Rugby 2016 Paralympics competition. He will be involved in both wheelchair rugby and basketball at the Wheelchair Sports NSW “come & try” zone at this year’s event. Specially made rugby and basketball chairs will be on site on the day for people to use, to get a feel for wheelchair sports.
Festival goers will also be entertained by local performers on the main stage as well as enjoy a headline performance from ‘Australia’s Got Talent’ grand finalist Singer Matt McLaren who has been blind since birth. Up and coming contemporary country trio Victoria Avenue will return to Coffs to perform on the day as well.
The C.ex children’s zone will again feature a jumping castle, petting zoo, mechanical bull and surfboard rides as well as face painting. The ever popular ETC Youth Zone and Arts Hub will return with new activities and food and market stalls will circle the site.
Local aged care, health and disability service providers are being encouraged to join the day by booking a space in the information hub to promote how they are helping people on the Coffs Coast remain within the community and lead fulfilling lives.
The aim of the day is for people to come together in an inclusive and accessible space to enjoy a day that celebrates who we are and the great place we live in while potentially accessing organisations that may be able to offer support to enhance their lives.
