Everyone who attended the fundraising dinner for Connor Maclean on Thursday 17 October at Opal Cove agrees it was a night to remember.
MC Michael Crossland and special guest award winning journalist Ray Martin kept guests entertained with inspirational stories and anecdotes that at times had the crowd roaring with laughter.
But let’s not forget what the evening was all about. Hosted by Community Care Options, a leading local aged and disability care service provider, the night was about raising money to get Connor to the USA for vital medical treatment. Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Connor and his Mum Cheryl to kick start a campaign to raise the $300,000 required.
Connor was born with a rare condition called Vacterl Syndrome, which affects nearly every organ in his body, his skeletal system (he has scoliosis of the spine) and some muscles. On top of this, Connor has a life threatening allergy to rubber and has in recent years been diagnosed with Crohn’s disease and arthritis. Connor’s life revolves around multiple medical procedures every 2 hours to ensure that his organs continue to function. In spite of this, Connor has a heart and a spirit larger than life, enduring constant pain and discomfort without complaint, but more often with concern for others and a smile. At 16 years of age Connor has spent more time in hospital and endured more operations than many of us will ever experience in a lifetime.
So Coffs community we need your help. Anyone who would like to donate money to help Connor and Cheryl can contact Community Care Options on (02)6650 2000 for bank account details. A little or a lot, it all helps.
Then on Friday 6 December a trivia night and charity auction will be held in Coffs to continue the fundraising campaign for Connor. Details are still being finalised however the idea is to create a fun and memorable night out for people within the Coffs Coast community to come along in support of Connor. Details for the night will be available soon.
