Building an Inclusive Community through Partnership

Community Care Options has responded to community need and is actively partnering with local clubs and social groups towards building a more inclusive and accessible Coffs Coast for all.

The Inclusive Community Partnership Project is gathering momentum and was borne out of the need for those requiring support with daily living to expand their social network and get involved in meaningful community activities. The project offers clubs and social groups information, consultation and assistance around engaging members with support needs in order to develop workable solutions through collaboration.

Almost thirty community groups are on board, including Coffs Chess Club, Coffs Harbour Olympic Pool, Sing Australia, Sawtell Art Group and Coffs Coast Health Club.

“We are here for people who may have support and rehabilitation needs” said Ben McIlwraith, Manager of Coffs Coast Health Club. “We believe in the same rights for everyone and work in an accepting environment. Our vision is to empower the Coffs Coast to be the healthiest and happiest community in Australia.”

Matina Starrs, client of Community Care Options, regularly trains at Coffs Coast Health Club and describes how connecting with a community activity has had a positive impact on her life. “I have a sense of belonging when I come here. I lived at the gym before my accident and to be able to exercise again offers me huge pain relief, improved mobility and the chance to socialize” said Matina. “I’m driving again and on the 15th anniversary of my accident I walked in the doors of the gym for the first time.”

Community Care Options hopes to expand the project and connect with more clubs and social groups in the coming months.
